Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

Recovering from a heart condition or heart surgery takes time, commitment, and a team of health professionals who can provide guidance and support in every aspect of your recovery.
The SLUCare Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed to help you recover faster and return to a full, productive life. Our team will develop a personalized plan for your treatment that may include: exercise counseling and training, nutrition education, stress management tips, heart-healthy lifestyle coaching, and tobacco cessation resources.
Our cardiac rehab team includes the following health professionals:
- Medical director
- Registered nurses who specialize in cardiac care
- Dietitians
- Social workers
- Exercise specialists
- Support staff
We work with your referring physician to coordinate your treatment plan and provide updates on your progress.
Who is a candidate for cardiac rehab?
Cardiac rehab patients must be referred by a physician to take part in the program.

In-person or at-home options for participation
At our University Tower location in Richmond Heights, you can interact one-on-one with the team in our cardiac rehab facility. Our in-person program includes an orientation session, personal fitness evaluation, ongoing exercise sessions and health vitals monitoring. Team members are on-site to answer your questions, monitor your progress, and provide resources to help you develop heart-healthy lifestyle habits.
Our at-home program combines virtual visits, video and other digital resources to deliver a comprehensive program that’s as close as your home computer.
What can you expect from at-home cardiac rehab?
- Structured and guided exercise sessions using real-time interactive audio and video with rehab staff
- Guided meditation and mindfulness virtual sessions for stress reduction
- Lifestyle coaching with experienced rehab staff and exercise specialists
- Nutrition education and counseling sessions with a dietitian, including resources for heart-healthy cooking
- Tobacco cessation resources and counseling
To determine whether in-person or at-home cardiac rehab is right for you, we’ll work with your referring physician and your insurance company to find a solution that accommodates both your condition and your health coverage.
