Congratulations to our BEE Award winner, Emily Miller.

Be Exceptional Everyday

May 08, 2024 03:45 PM -

We would like to congratulate Emily Miller, SSM Health Music Therapist, for being our latest BEE Award winner at SSM Health in Illinois.

Read an excerpt from her nomination here:

"A patient wasn’t talking much but Emily asked the family what kind of music the patient liked. They said Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”.  Emily played her guitar and sang one of the best versions of this song that it brought tears to my eyes as well as to the family. Entering the next room the patient, as well as all the family members, were big music lovers. The patient wasn’t doing well and had not been eating. Emily started to play songs, and the patient started moving her foot and so much more. We were told that after we left, the patient even started eating a little. Those are just a couple of examples, but believe me, I could write a book.  Emily does so much more than people are even aware of. She also does heartbeat recordings for families of dying patients. The lullaby played at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital when a baby is born was recorded by Emily. She is talented, knowledgeable, and helpful. She is in the perfect job/profession. She makes her PRESENCE known each and every minute of every day. We love her!"

Emily Miller and SSM Health Team

Just as the DAISY cannot survive without the BEE, our nurses at SSM Health could not survive without the outstanding effort provided by their coworkers. Members of this team include physicians, patient care technicians, medical assistants, respiratory therapists, supply and distribution, transport, EVS, food services, plant operations, security, and any other non-nursing staff member who contributes to the care of our patients.

Nominate an SSM Health employee for providing exceptional care here.
